The following list illustrates the work of the Parish Council – it is by no means exhaustive!




Provides a voice for Crockenhill

Pressing hard for more police presence in the village

Expressed a local view on each and every planning application in Crockenhill.

Councilors attended Development Control meetings at Sevenoaks District Council where important Crockenhill planning applications were discussed.

Met with Chief Executive and officers of Sevenoaks District Council regarding important issues affecting the village.

Successfully campaigned to get postal address changed to include “Crockenhill” as opposed to Swanley.

Councillors regularly attend Consortium meetings with Eynsford, Horton Kirby & South Darenth, Otford and Shoreham to discuss common local issues.

Asked Michael Fallon MP to take up the case of disparity between gypsy/traveller planning applications and those from general public.

 
Deals with local issues

Actively fought more than 30 inappropriate planning applications for the land on corner of Green Court Road/Goldsel Road, engaged a specialist planning lawyer to advise where necessary and kept local residents regularly informed of developments.

Councillors have been actively engaged to involve the village in discussions relating to the proposed new Primary School development.

Pressed SDC for double yellow lines over M20 bridge and down Goldsel Road into the village, around the junction of Seven Acres and Church Road.  These should appear soon!

Helped make Parish footpaths cleaner and safer.

Looking at ways of trying to reduce use of Eynsford Road by HGVs.

Worked closely with residents and KCC Councillor Roger Gough to get new “bend” signs and markings in Green Court Road

Considered and actively looked into the possibility of opening a Community Café.

Works closely with Kent County Councillor Roger Gough.


Maintains local amenities and the village environment

Harvestfield – Major investment to upgrade the park, sections of fencing repaired.  New paths put in.  New benches/bins/dog bins/signs have been installed.  Access from Harvest Way improved and opened up.

Employs Amenities Assistant to carry out weekly checks of recreational equipment for safety and ensure the cleanliness of those areas.

Employs Handyman for various equipment repairs as required.

Bi-annual inspection of areas in Village carried out by Councillors

Village Green playground – Monitors safety on a regular basis.  Currently in the process of repairing the seats.

Allotments – new sections opened up to deal with increased need for allotments.

Negotiated with SDC to take over grassed amenity areas in Woodmount and Newports to ensure their future as amenity land.

Successfully negotiated with Cricket Clubs to renew lease on Cricket Meadow.

Maintains the raised flower bed in the centre of the village.

Appoints voluntary Tree Wardens.

Keeps War Memorial clean and tidy.

Erected additional bollards alongside the Cricket Meadow to discourage illegal encroachments



Supports local groups and charities

Hosted a further COGS “Crockenhill Opening Gateways” meeting to promote local groups and organisations and give residents the opportunity of putting their thoughts for the future forward.

Grants made to various local groups

Parish Office acted as ticket agency for Village events.

Agreed children’s football club can use 5-a-side goals at Harvestfield Park to encourage greater use of the park generally.
 
Keeps you informed

Web site is maintained and regularly updated.

2 newsletters & lists of local organisations and contacts distributed each year.

Distribute flyers keeping residents informed of current issues as required.

Keeps notice boards up to date 

 
Councillors give their time freely

11 full Council meetings are held each year along with a slightly smaller number of planning meetings.  There is also an Annual Parish Meeting once a year.

A councillor attends the Village Hall Committee meetings each month.

Councillors regularly attend NHS update meetings.

Councillors attended several Community events.

Councillors attend Citizens Advice Bureau meetings.

Councillors attended Wreath Laying service on Remembrance Sunday.

Parish Council has a representative on the School Governing Body.

Councillors provide local emergency planning help to authorities if required.

 
Makes Crockenhill a better place to live

Helped Kent Community Warden arrange a litter pick of the village.

A councillor plants and maintains the flower baskets at the front of the Village Hall.

Pays for 7 cuts of each of 4 areas of burial grounds/cemeteries in the village.
